Video Marketing Gadgets: Title & Credit settings (Part 1 – Campaigns in the title screen)

The titles and credit screens are useful and important for video marketing. We have discussed the benefits and downsides of adding campaigns or related/recommended videos in the title and credit screens before, but it is mainly aimed for those third-party video hosting services like YouTube, Vimeo and so on.

For POLYV’s video services, or the video applications built by POLYV, the titles and credit screens are fully controlled by you, therefore they are more related to your content, more effective and less distractive to the audience, and provide detailed information like audience’s behavior and interest of content more directly.

Here in the first part of the tutorial, we will talk about how to add your designated campaigns in the title screen.

1. After signing in POLYV, select “Video” to enter the admin page of Video Cloud.

2. Select the player you need, then click “Modify” button on the action bar to edit the preferences of the player.

Select the player you need to set up the title screen.

3. Go to the “Set up the Titles” section in the middle of the right panel, select the “Show the titles” radio button on the right, then click the “Upload” button to submit your campaign. After that, click “Save” to complete the settings.

Before uploading the title screen, be sure to select the radio button of "Show the titles".

Note that the campaign can be either images in JPG or PNG format (GIF not supported), or animations/videos in MP4, FLV or SWF format. We strongly recommend using aspect ratio of 4:3 for your campaign, such as 640×480 or 1024×576.

Here’s what it looks like in the player:

That’s all for how to add your campaign in the title screen. In the next article we will talk about how to utilize your credit screen for campaigns or related videos, so stay tuned for the update 🙂

Concise tutorial: Adding subtitles for videos

Subtitles are on-screen text information for the videos, including but not limited to transcription, description or other additional content. Subtitles can help spread your videos to a larger audience, not only for people from other countries (especially those who speak in different languages), but also for the disabled like deaf or hard of hearing viewers to understand the content of the video.

POLYV’s Video Cloud supports SRT subtitles, a widely-used text-based subtitle format that can be edited in any text editor. These SRT subtitles will not compromise the quality of the videos since they are loaded externally. What’s more, you can upload the subtitles in different languages.

Let’s see how we can upload subtitles for a video in Video Cloud –

1. After signing in POLYV, select “Video Cloud”, then click “Videos” in the navigation bar.

2. Select the video you need for subtitles, then click “Upload subtitles” on the right panel.

Portal for subtitle settings

3. You can upload and then name the subtitles in the popup window. Note that Video Cloud supports multiple SRT files in different languages per upload.

The popup window for uploading subtitles, as well as information for the uploaded ones.

When you play the video with subtitles, you can choose the language you want or understand.

Subtitle language select

This is how you make your videos spread to more viewers with the SRT subtitle feature within Video Cloud. If you want to know more about tweaking your Video Cloud and Streaming Cloud, stay tune for our blog or check out our official website for more information.

Concise tutorial: Encrypting and transcoding settings for source files

Video transcoding is one of the key processes in both Video Cloud and Streaming Cloud by POLYV. Usually, if you upload media files or start your livestreams, they will be automatically transcoded by default.

The cloud transcoding system behind POLYV will convert the source video files into MP4 (for HTML5 player and mobile playback) or FLV (for POLYV Player on PC) files as non-encrypted format, and a combination of M3U8+Key+TS files (with Apple’s HLS encryption algorithm for HTML5 player and mobile playback) or PDX+PTS files (with POLYV’s unique fragmentation transcoding and encryption methods, can only be played in POLYV Player) as encrypted format. Audio files follow the same transcoding rules and will be converted into corresponding audio formats.

It’s up to you to decide if your video files should be encrypted or transcoded during the upload process. Let’s see how it’s done –

1. After signing in POLYV, select “Video Cloud”, then click “Videos” in the navigation bar.

2. Select “Manage folder” on the left panel, and you will see the categories and folders listed on the right panel.

Portal for encrypting and transcoding videos in the "Manage folder".

Portal for encrypting and transcoding videos in the “Manage folder”.

3. Select the folder you need, then click “Folder settings”.

Click on the designated folder for detailed settings.

Click on the designated folder for detailed settings.

The key preferences for encrypting and transcoding the source files are:

  • Whether to enable setting – If enabled, the source files will be encrypted during upload.
  • Source File Play – If enabled, the source files will NOT be transcoded NOR encrypted during upload, and will be used directly for playback.
Options for encrypting and transcoding files during the upload process. Note that your files will not be transcoded and lose DRM protection if "Source FIle Play" is enabled.

Options for encrypting and transcoding files during the upload process. Note that your files will not be transcoded and lose DRM protection if “Source FIle Play” is enabled.

For both preferences, they will only apply on the uploads after the setup, and will not affect the previous uploaded videos.

That’s all for setting up the encrypting and transcoding for your videos. You can change these settings for different situations or scenarios at any time you need.

However, note that if you enable the source file playback option, the videos uploaded under this setup will be played in their original bitrate, and quality select will be disabled; also, since those videos are not encrypted during the upload process, there is risk of them getting pirated. We recommend you not enabling this option if you want to keep your media content secured.

POLYV: A look back on 2016

Howdy! As in the first week of 2017, we think it’s time to take a look back on what we have done over the last year.

For us, one of the most important event this year is the Pre-A venture capital funding in May. The million-dollar funding was approved by Hike Capital, one of the largest venture capitals in China, and will be utilized in different fields, including online education, big data combined with VR research, and video identification known as “Video DNA”.

With this funding, we can now serve our users and clients even better, as well as focus on our research for more leading-edge technologies.

Another key event of ours is that we officially obtained the TRUCS certification in September. The certification is signed by Data Center Alliance (DCA), an association of cloud service and security led by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Communications Standards Association (CCSA).

Unlike Alibaba, Tencent and other cloud services, we are the only one to exclusively provide SaaS service for videos among the TRUCS-certified cloud services. We attribute the certification to the recognition from the security authorities of DCA, as well as from the over 24,000 clients we serve over the years.

Besides, we received several awards and honors, including 3rd Prize of China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition (CIEC), New & Dashing Technology Prize of China Education Gala 2016, Certification of National High Technology Enterprises and more.

Once again, these honors are not for bragging about how great we are doing – they are the recognitions from the clients and authorities for our technologies and products, and reminding us of never stop developing and going further for the better.

As our business grows bigger and bigger, the sense of responsibility is growing, too. For the first time, our Streaming Cloud service played an important role in community activities – a 3-day live streaming classroom for the high school students in Beijing due to the severe smog weather.

As regarding “Driving value with video” as our ambition, we fulfill it by serving in such community or public affairs to help or benefit more people. It is a good kickstart and we will keep on with it from then on.

For promotions and marketing, we have participated in many tech salons, fairs and exhibitions, of which the biggest one is GET2016: Global Education Technology Summit & Expo. It is our honor to meet with great entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and leading professionals from all over the world, in both education and technology fields.

We really appreciate their speeches as well as the insights and prospects shared in the expo. Besides, many participants and corporations are very interested with our VR live streaming demo at the vendor. We have collected their feedback as they try it, and will consider them as a reference in the developing process.

And, we are beginning the overseas promotion. Back in August 2016, we started to plan about the international website, social media, blogs and other optimizations, and then started with the construction of blogs.

So far our blogs have been running well, and brought us the first few international clients for video hosting and live streaming. For international site, it is now in design stage, and will be deployed later this year.

And for the most important part – our product research and development, 2016 is the key year for Streaming Cloud – we started to promote this live streaming service in Q2, not only for market share, but also to test out the stability and load balancing.

Then, with weekly minor updates, the release of new PC client and mobile app, account linking between Video Cloud and Streaming Cloud, and more CDN nodes put into use, we had a great breakthrough in Q4: significant boost in both users and sales for Streaming Cloud, as well as gaining reputation from various type of clients and users.

We also made a demo for VR live streaming (as mentioned above in the promotion and marketing section), and some attempts in other new technologies including video recognition. We will notify you if new features or further updates are released.

The bottom line, we have been growing fast over 2016, and embracing the latest technologies for videos. For the brand new 2017, we will continue providing better video services and developing more useful functions and leading-edge features to meet our clients’ demands.

We’ll keep exploring. What about you?
